Reading Sesh
Not to brag but…
I (don’t) read, for the cultured that got that reference nice! Anyway the topic for this yapping session is mental rehearsing and me trying to make sense out of it. MENTAL WHAT?! Yeah man, mentally rehearsing. Apparently that if you think about something, your body and mind can gain the experience from it as if you were actually doing the thing! Now this seems familiar. Can’t really pinpoint where the familiarity stems from but, hmm oh well.
My Theory
This is a collection of experiences that I theorise (JUST A THEORY!) about instances where my mind could have been mentally rehearsing (A MIND THEORY!).
I will start with the most obvious example to me, and it isn’t quite exciting but. I watch a lot of Overwatch content creators.
For those who shower and happen to be reading this Overwatch is a team based hero shoote- (NO ONE CARES) it’s a video game where you shoot enemy gamers and have cool abilities with cool characters. That’s all you need to know. The game can get pretty competitive as it has a decent esports scene and whatever and idk I think this game has killed it’s competitors a few times (insert OW having more twitch viewers than other game here) HA!
The point I’m getting to is that a lot of those creators tend to have a niche, as in they play a certain character REALLY well and they showcase so much skill and experience with their character of choice.
The specific creators I watch tend to change over time but notable mentions are FroggerTV (Frogge row), ZBAR (zbra) and 6 (Cyx). Each of those are incredibly talented players who are pretty much masters at their craft with various levels of success as content creators and players
Now the mental rehearsal comes from a cycle of: I watch overwatch creator -> I see cool trick I never did before -> I think about pulling those tricks off in a real game myself over and over again -> Finally hop on game and actually successfully pull off trick pretty much first try
WOAH LOOK AT THAT GRAPH isn’t it cool? You too can do this with dot and graphviz (with the exact code above it) :) WOOOO (the code and graph are in the .org file in the source code of this :D ) Anyways this makes a lot of sense to me because I was able to just mentally prepare for something I’ve never done before and show uh I guess you’d call it “natural” talent towards things. Obviously I am not great it at but my guess it’s something my mind has picked up. Somehow some way at a given point in time.
That’s really about it
